Church Planting
God is good! This year we have been on a journey of wrestling with the Lord about Church Planting. For the past several years, Jill and I have been praying about taking that step. In February, I attended a leadership training in Chicago for Mercy Ships, and the Lord used that time to stir a desire to Pastor a church. I have been involved in church ministry for over two decades and felt it was time to pursue Pastoring. In March, the whole family went on a week-long mission trip to the Southern Border with Love Mercy International. During that trip, the Lord continued to point towards pursuing Pastoring. I started to look for churches who needed a Pastor, but nothing worked out. At the same time, a good friend reached out and asked about Church Planting. We prayed and prayed and the Lord opened up an opportunity to pursue Church Planting. It was not an easy decision. We said “No” first as we felt some of the logistics weren’t falling in place for us. After more praying and crying out to the Lord, we said “Yes”. We knew it would not be an easy road, but knew God was calling us.
In June, I left working at Mercy Ships after serving there for over eight years to focus on this next step. Mercy Ships is an incredible ministry that allowed me to see God work in powerful ways. That is where Jill and I met, and later married in 2020. While saying YES to Church Planting, my family and I have also experienced some challenges in going through two miscarriages. Sometimes we want to ask Why God?, but we know God has a reason for all things. We know He is using these trials to prepare us for Church Planting. One of our family’s verses is Matthew 6:33, Seek First the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all things will be added to you. As we move into a new year, we hope to continue to seek God and His Righteousness in all areas of our lives. As we know there will be challenges during this season, our prayer is that we may be content in all circumstances.
